The SCP Foundation
“If you came across something that you didn’t understand, what would you do to try and understand it?
Thousands of years ago, if we witnessed something we couldn’t comprehend, we called them Gods or Demons, doings of a higher power to which we were inferior. We worshipped them and created myths and legends in an effort to explain them.
Today, we understand some of these phenomena through the use of science and technology. However, the strange and mysterious never truly go away. There are some things that even science can’t explain.
And if there are no Gods to save us, then we must fend for ourselves.
The Foundation exists to hide the anomalous from the eyes of the public so they may remain in perpetual and blissful ignorance.
“We Secure. We Contain. We Protect.”

The SCP Wiki is a collaborative fiction project about the SCP Foundation, a shadowy organization that focuses on containing and researching various anomalous items, creatures and phenomena while keeping them secret from the public.
This project covers a wide range of genres—horror, fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, you name it. Whatever you’re into, this website most likely has something for you.
SCP is an acronym that stands for 2 things: Special Containment Procedures (commonly referred to as simply SCPs), protocols that help contain the designated anomaly, and Secure, Contain, Protect (The Foundation’s motto and mission).
The First SCP
The first SCP ever created was surprisingly not SCP-001 as you would expect, but was instead SCP-173 (The Sculpture), nicknamed by the community as “Peanut” due to its resemblance to a peanut with limbs.
SCP-173 was first posted on 4chan’s paranormal board by a user known as “Moto42” on June 22, 2007. The photo that he and the SCP Wiki used for SCP-173 was of a sculpture by the Japanese artist Izumi Kato called Untitled 2004. They did not ask Izumi Kato for permission to use the photo, and it did not comply with the Wiki’s Creative Commons License, so the photo was subsequently removed from the Wiki on February 13, 2022.
(I probably shouldn’t use the image here because of copyright reasons, so have a stock image of a peanut instead. If you want the original image, just google “Untitled 2004 by Izumi Kato”.)
Since that post on 4chan, the SCP Wiki has grown to several hundred authors, over 7000 individual SCP Files each detailing original anomalies, and several thousand tales about the Foundation as well. And that is just the English branch of the foundation.
There are various other international branches of the foundation that each detail their own unique anomalies, so the true number of articles goes far beyond 7000. So—if you ever want something to read in your spare time, go to the SCP Wiki and give it a quick browse. You are sure to find something to keep you preoccupied.
Object Classes
Contrary to what you might think when you first see object classes, The Foundation does not classify anomalies based on how dangerous they are. Object Classes are instead used to gauge how difficult an anomaly is to contain. There are five main object classes, encompassed through the acronym SEKTA, which stands for Safe, Euclid, Keter, Thaumiel and Apollyon. Below is a brief description of each of these object classes.
Safe
The anomaly in question is easy to contain, and its properties are well understood. However, this does not mean it is completely harmless.
Euclid
Containment of the anomaly in question requires more resources to contain, and its properties are not well understood and are unpredictable. Named after the Ancient Greek mathematician.
Keter
The anomaly in question is extremely difficult to contain, with very complex containment procedures. The Foundation does not have a solid understanding of its properties, or it lacks the technology to properly contain it. This does not necessarily mean that the anomaly is dangerous, just that it is very difficult to contain. Keter (כֶּתֶר) is Hebrew for the word “crown”.
Thaumiel
The anomaly in question is being used to contain other SCPs or has properties that are useful to the Foundation.
Apollyon
The anomaly in question is near impossible to contain and poses an immediate risk to all human life.
